More on Adrians Bug Take 3 !

Last time we met ton tinternet That's Northern talk, We were looking at the new panels mocked up in place prior to welding up, I would like to say i was going to get some pictures of myself welding the panels in place but by the time i had set the timer put on the gauntlets and the mask the bloody cameras had gone off, after numerous fuck its, shouting such words as Bollocks and OH Bloody Hell,  I gave up. Just thought i would let you know that! most people that know me are aware that i do occasionally use such words & profanity's.

Any way i am aiming to finish this little item tonight and put the job to bed so you can see the finished job, as far as i am aware Adrian is pleased with the work i done, I suppose i should stop waffling and add some pictures.

I would just like to add before i go on that My friend Claude's father has been unwell and i hope he has now made a good & speedy recovery over in France i wish you well And hope to meet you soon.

The final grinding session before the welding.

d
front inner wing repaired

Making a little repair piece for the bottom of the door pillar.

Now in place.

Heater channel no welded in place, The door post had a large amount of weld round the bottom as a result of the last repair, I did not want to cut all this out, So i welded the new channel on to this.

In goes the rubber seal before putting in place ready for the welding.

Inside rear of the channel now welded up.

This is some rot that was in the bottom of the rear inner wheel arch that needed to be sorted out.

Sorted, Now just the floor to weld up.

Floor tack welded in place so i could check that it all still fitted ok.

Floor seamed up, I generally do this in sections when its a long run of weld, i tend to weld a few inches then go back to the other end allowing each piece to cool this helps any distortion that could occur at bay.

Floor seamed up to the front of the car.

Just in case no one had noticed i did remove a section of the seat runner to allow the floor repair this pic shows the seat runner back in place.

The next few pictures are the repairs in primer.

That distorted line is the weld area on the inside of the car.

Heater tube Back in place.

Rear seat support and kick panels back in place.

Rear seat re-inserted to rear of car, trying to act posh now using words like re-inserted, I picked that up from a foreign film but we wont go there!!!!!

Carpets now were getting there.

There we go apart from a bit of red back to normal.

At this point j had a chat with Adrian as the running board he had been supplied was of poor quality and the fit was not great, he decided for the purpose of getting it back on the road to leave it off.

Looks the same as when we started don't she.

More on Adrians bug.

Right then were did we leave it Last time, Apart from on the floor and in abox. Right Adrian chose to get the extra parts needed to continue the on the heater channel, so with out to much Bull shit OOP's sorry i mean Chat from me ill continue with the photo's and the works as they progressed.

Well as you can see by the time the air chisel had shaken the bones out of the old girl, like i said in a box.

And on the floor as you can see it really was quite rotten really probably caught it just in time.

After the measuring and re-measuring the old rotten floor pan was cut out, i tend to use ultra thin cutting discs when carrying out this sort of work as they cut really quick and give you a really straight line with little heat transfer. The white paint you can see is just my own way of checking the overlap on the panels after cutting.

As you can see the same here that cut is bloody marvelous if i do say so myself, Straight as a straight thing

This is what was remaining after i had cut the floor out. i don't know what to say really i suppose shit covers it !

All the new bits just need to trim and ready to fit.

Trimmed and ready to go, i don't need to explain about the white paint do i class i may ask questions later gold star for the top student.

Panels in place Mocked up for trial fit.

Front section trial fit looks great at this point.

This is the front inner wing, Why am i explaining your all bug lovers you already know, Oh god must not forget to point out the rot by the heater channel.

Under side oohh look floor pan bolts just the way it should be, i know i am what people will call an amatuer, But i can not believe that somone would weld it all together.

Well the next entry will be the final preping and the welding it all together and the final leg the reasembly of the old girl.

Thanks for looking and appreciate your comments on my relentless dribble! and obviously my work.

Adrians Bug.

Adrian asked me if i could undertake some work on his bug, I popped round to see him & Cynthia? apparently that the name his delightful lady gave the Bug. and we agreed the way forward, this originally seemed like a straight heater channel swap, As the vehicle was sworn i arranged for the use of transport to move the bug to my gaff. Once in my little work shop i started to look at the job in hand, That's when things started to change, the heater channel had been welded to the floor pan on the inside and the out side, The recess for the floor pan bolts had been completely welded over. I started to tap and large quantity of Golden stuff fell out but alas it was not gold. I gave Adrian a call so he could pop round & have a look.

The following pictures are of the works as they were carried out, I took over sixty pictures but i will not bore you to death with all of them, As i do want you to look at the blog again. Any way take a look at pics and see what you think, Oh! you will see some pics of my son on this one as he is my side kick & generally helps me out, I would like to acknowledge my thanks to him. And as usual comments welcome Except the glowing Bold patch on my head as i already know its there !!!!

Cynthia Arrives.

Safely tucked away, I had to abandon my Bus to the elements She was not Happy !

Let the strip commence, My wife was not happy when i said Cynthia was stripping down in the garage !

That My Boy !

Oh dear that HHMM Not good ?

OOH LOOK NO FLOOR PAN BOLTS that's a surprise were could they have gone !

CRACKING JOB you just weld it all together, I do hope some one is really embarrassed.

You cant really see it but the heater tubes are taped in and have been sliced to make fit, Nice shade of Gold round There.

How much! there's Gold in them there Sills HA HA Fools gold only though.

My son only farted and all this fell out, Well it had a little help with the wee Hammer.

Out with the cutter lets see what we've got then.

It don't look good, but we've all seen worse.

Err No don't look any better from this angle.

I now know why you should cut it out not cover it up its the only way to cure.

Inner front wheel arch not good either.

Air chisel to floor to remove the plates previously welded in.

heater chanel now out and the missing floor pan Bolts revealed, they had welded over the top leaving all the crap behind to carry on rotting dont make sense.

It was around this point i called Adrian to come and have another look, we agreed that the floor pan needed some remedial works, Adrian ordered the floor pan repair pannels and we waited for delivery prior to going further.

Next entry later this week, Well with so many pictures and my Two finger typing it will porbably take longer to do the blogg than to fix the Bug !!!!!!!!

Catch you on the flip side.
